temporanea
temporanea is a seven-piece composer-performer collective from Basel whose shared practice grows out of improvisation. From there we look for forms between improvisation and composition, probing the borders between musical genres — we're especially drawn to the stretch between a "new-music / improvisation ensemble" and a jazz-inflected "avant-garde pop band".
The members come from different corners of classical music and jazz. During our studies in Basel we turned more and more toward new music, improvisation and experimental ways of playing, without giving up where we came from — pop, early YouTube videos and our own iPod libraries are just as much part of the mix. In temporanea these backgrounds meet and become the starting point for a shared musical language. Everyone writes and plays: composition and interpretation aren't separate roles.

New album — things I should have said before hanging up
Out of our shared practice we're recording an album about what stays open in communication: things left unsaid, said too late, held back, or only formulated afterwards. things I should have said before hanging up takes the moment of hanging up the phone as an interruption, and a possible goodbye, for its starting point. What remains after a conversation is already over? Which thoughts only arrive later?
Improvisation is the way in: like a conversation, it answers its counterpart and can vanish as quickly as it appears. A musical idea can be picked up, interrupted, discarded, repeated, or carried on only later — and from that process we develop composed forms that keep the unfinished and the possibility of breaking off or going on. After EARTHWORMS (Rubber Commune, 2025), this is our second album and the first conceived collectively, recording planned for 2027.
EARTHWORMS — debut album
EARTHWORMS grows out of listening itself. It starts from a childhood memory — how fun it once was to make the very sounds adults told us off for — and follows deep-listening practices and improvisation, drawing on texts by Pauline Oliveros, Arseny Tarkovsky and Timm Kornelius as guides for the playing.
Even the nine track titles read as a single line: listen · to · earthworms · as · the · vegetation · keeps · growing · around. Released on Rubber Commune, 20 December 2025.
