JIMBA

Together with some friends and colleagues, driven by the need for a shared space of expression through improvisation, we decided to create JIMBA.

JIMBA — Jam of Improvised Music in Basel — is an open session for freely improvised music, run by the collective KreativKlang. Each evening pairs a curated opening concert with a structured jam: names go into a box, and the ensembles, line-ups and set lengths are drawn by chance, often with a dice.

Since October 2024, sixteen editions have taken place at the Musikerwohnhaus in Basel St. Johann, bringing together students, professionals, self-taught and electronic musicians, performers and curious first-timers. The line between audience and players stays fluid — listeners often become part of the improvisation.
